Tomorrow Is For Us
Published Friday, June 26th 2020 - Updated Sunday, June 28th 2020We should all be looking forward to a great vacation in our future.
Hope springs eternal.
At least, it used to.
Perhaps you're one of the people who say they will never cruise again, or at least not until there's a cure for COVID-19.
That's your prerogative.
BUT, cruise lines are working hard to make cruises better than ever, and in fact, the next time you board a cruise, not only will you have greater protection from this headline-grabbing virus but also from other kinds of viruses, colds and flus.
In any case, Julie and I are hopeful that we will be able to go on our cruise booked for October of 2020.
Frankly, the fact that we'll be on a ship that will not be filled should make it better than ever. I'll tell you about it when we get back, but my impression is that it will be awesome, if it's not cancelled. In any case, we'll cruise with confidence.
When Julie convinced me to follow up a long pre-Christmas cruise to Hawaii in 2019 with a South America/Antarctica cruise that embarked in late January, I thought that would be just too much cruising, especially because both of those fortnight voyages included a lot of sea days.
As Julie likes to say, we don't know what the future holds, so we better go while we still have our health and the means to go. To those potential limitations, I will now forever add "and governments allow us to go."
We're thrilled we went on both of those cruises when we did. That kept us from going stir crazy for what has turned out to be a half year with cruises essentially prohibited. In fact, while a river cruise in late May would have hit the spot, I have to say we've survived without cruising, although those gourmet meals and world class entertainment at sea have been sorely missed, especially during the unprecedented lock down of Los Angeles County.
Fortunately for those of you who didn't get in a long cruise before the madness began, great land destinations have already opened for vacationers, so you can now go to amazing places like Greece, Jamaica, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta for extended land stays.
Hawaii is scheduled to open on August 1.
Soon, river cruises will accept Americans as guests.
What's stopping you from living your dreams?
Oh, that's right. I forgot.
