Having a great father makes all the difference in the world.

I was privileged to grow up with a wonderful Dad who loved me unconditionally and was always there for me.

He and Mom undoubtedly made many personal sacrifices for the benefit of my sister and me, but they never made it seem that way.

They chose to be parents, and in making that choice, they opted away from many other possible experiences.

In the process, they gave us amazing lives.

Dad has long since passed away, but I still think about him daily, which I guess is a form of immortality.

I wish I could spend more time with him. I would love to bring Dad along on a cruise to Alaska or Antarctica to see whales, birds and other wildlife, or snorkeling in Hawaii or the Caribbean among bigger versions of tropical fish he enjoyed in his aquarium that rested on a room divider between our kitchen table and living room.

We never cruised together, but we took road trips across America every summer when I was a kid.  As adults, we were best friends who worked together for many years.

If your father is still with you, take advantage of the chance to share memorable experiences with him.

And if you have children of your own, build your own great memories with them.
