Your Last Summer Vacation?
Published Sunday, March 29th 2020As Americans, we're accustomed to unbridled personal freedom, but the "rights we hold self-evident" have not applied to average citizens throughout most of human history.
What if an "existential threat" --- literally a life or death situation for the existence of humanity --- eliminated all international leisure travel forever?
It's no longer as hard to imagine as it once was, is it?
Now, imagine you are granted permission for just one more vacation.
Is there some distant land you've always dreamed you would visit but never found the time?
Would you return to an old favorite --- a place you still discuss in revered tones --- but do so in a style you could not imagine as a younger version of yourself?
Would you island hop, searching for the perfect beach?
Thank God, we're not at a permanent end to international travel, but the pause gives us cause to reflect.
We've entered spring.
Wake up and smell the tulips.
Summer is just around the corner, and with so much pent-up demand from would-be cruisers stuck in their homes for weeks, those who fail to plan may be sadly disappointed to find that exactly what they want is no longer available when they finally feel free to act.
