Work In Paradise
Published Monday, September 21st 2020 - Updated Saturday, September 26th 2020Perhaps you're one of the truly fortunate Americans allowed to work from home during this forced lockdown, keeping your fat paycheck and benefits while saving the time, hassles and expense of commuting.
If you have children, you're also getting the chance to be a stay-at-home parent, just like you told your friends would be truly ideal back in the days when you could have folks over for a backyard barbecue while your kids ran amok in the neighborhood.
Got your wish!
A man's home is his castle, but after almost a year of being locked down, perhaps it is beginning to feel like a prison. Why not break work from home in a home away from home...on the beach.
As long as you have internet and phone service, then you can get the job done, right?
And your kids can attend virtual school anywhere, verdad?
Why not live and work in a more enticing environment for a week or so?
There are some great places you can go right now for a beach resort stay. The Caribbean, Mexico and French Polynesia come readily to mind.
As cruise lines have finally gotten a handle on what needs to be done to cruise in this new era and begun pushing the CDC for permission to re-open in U.S. waters, it is increasingly probable that some cruises will be sailing in November, with more expected over the holidays and the new year.
With new broadband at sea that makes internet as fast as on land and at much lower pricing than in the past (often "free" as part of a promotional offer), you could be sending work emails from the Lido Deck between Margaritas, although you probably want to go light on the alcohol from 9 to 5, which is a good tip when you're teaching classes or working at home, too.
Ship-sponsored shore excursions may be the norm initially when cruises resume in order to keep guests in a "safe bubble" that stops someone from picking up a disease, in case that is a concern for you.
In light of this, some people are thinking they might as well simply go with a packaged land tour, once they become available.
I'm personally a big fan of cruising, where we unpack only once, but packaged tours I've taken certainly allowed us to see a lot of amazing places that from a cruise might have been impractical. Basically, trekking between can be a fascinating overland excursion, as many people on Alaska Cruise Tours have found.
Now that you have been forced to see for yourself that kids don't need to be in a classroom to learn, why not explore with them the regions where history was made?
Nothing beats walking the steps of history with a knowledgeable guide.
But let's face it.
Beyond learning, the kids have a lot of social time at school, and the fact that you have work that must be done doesn't translate fully to a school child who has not only been locked out of school but been banned from playing with their friends.
Imagine the fun they could be having with a refreshing pool or kid's club nearby on a sunny day.
It can be hard to do everything that your boss, kids and spouse demand of you, not to mention all the additional clean-up you have when the whole family is at home messing up the house and asking for food all the time.
Break-away!

P.S. The virtual cruise we're sharing today looks at Music of Vienna. All you have to do to escape is click the link and dream.
