It's funny how our minds work.

A new series of classes about Mayans of the Yucatan Peninsula available through Great Courses caught my interest, so I started watching what turned out to be of a series of less-than-Anthony-Bourdain versions of "No Reservations" rather than the usual classroom lectures.

A few days later, I read that historic sites in Yucatan were reopening for the public and began thinking about making a trip there myself this fall to escape the Hotel California.  I wrote a newsletter/blog about Riviera Maya, which is a great base from which to explore the ruins and also indulge in beach activities like snorkeling.

This morning, I received an email from Victory Cruise Lines, a small ship line primarily known for cruises in the Great Lakes.

Guess what destination they were promoting?

Victory's cruise dedicated to the Yucatan Peninsula begins with one hotel night in Cancun.

After resting up...or drinking all night at Senor Frog's...you should be fresh as a daisy to begin your tour with a visit to Tulum, an excellent example of Mayan architecture set on a beautiful piece of coastline.  Julie and I visited Tulum from Cozumel on a Royal Caribbean cruise over 15 years ago.  Where does the time go?

I have to say we still look pretty much the same...based on photos, anyway.  As I like to say, cruising is the Fountain of Youth!

Or maybe back then I was just prematurely gray.

On this Victory Cruise, you will be able to vist many remarkable sites, including Chichen-Itza, plus encounter friendly, present-day Mayans, who still maintain a native culture that survived the Spanish conquest.

Traveling on a comfortable small ship means you get that relaxing time onboard, including gourmet meals, rather than longer bus rides to reach the other side of the peninsula.

What's the catch?

Unfortunately, this cruise isn't available until November and December of 2021.

However, if you're ready to explore the Mayan World this year, I'll be happy to help you plan your hotel stay and tours, so you can enjoy all the best the Yucatan Peninsula has to offer before year's end.

"Better service leads to better trips!"

Wes

P.S. On our shared virtual cruise, we'll be Cruising the Wachau Valley.
