What is the Right Soundtrack for Your Travels?
Published Saturday, April 2nd 2022 - Updated Saturday, April 2nd 2022On the first season of "This Is Us," the nostalgic soundtrack held a place as important as any cast member.
Hearing the songs of different eras made it easy to believe the characters were living in the past as we remember it.
Budget cuts or perhaps a tone-deaf producer scaled back that great music in subsequent seasons, and Julie and I lost interest in the show, which I believe concluded recently. The show went from hopeful to more depressing storylines, and we prefer to feel happy and hopeful, which is one of the reasons we love cruising. Travel has been proven to make us happier.
If music is an important part of your life, the cruise you choose might be as much about getting on a line with the right soundtrack as dining, on-board architecture and amenities, or even itinerary.
"As our cruise is winding down, just wanted to let you know how it’s been going. We love, love the music venues here. The best of any cruise line we’ve been on. Quality is superb & the choice of classical, blues, rock or piano never disappoints. We haven’t felt the need to try their big theater as we love the Music Walk."
These clients have cruised on many lines and traveled extensively around the world, so this is high praise indeed.
What cruise prompted this review?
A California coastal cruise aboard Holland America Koningsdam.
These seasoned travelers are young-at-heart baby boomers, very much like me and perhaps you, except that they always cruise in suites.
In all fairness, they were disappointed by the "subpar" size of their suite, the second largest on Holland America Koningsdam, but they raved about the dining.
"The food has been spectacular. The special dining room for suites with its expanded menu is excellent. Have been in one special restaurant (Canalleto - very good) & will be dining in two others tonight & tomorrow. Service has been very good."
If you enjoy great music (and dining and service), give more than passing consideration to Holland America for your next cruise.
"Better service leads to better trips!"
Thanks,
Wes
