The Ocean Cleanup

Julie and I recently returned from a wonderful cruise to Hawaii.
The trip for me became sort of a return to carefree college days (and better yet, with no homework or tests!), which you can read about here at my linked article.
During one of our "classes," we learned more about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, something I've heard rumblings about for years but never really looked into.
Please note that you don't actually see this accumulated trash on the cruise, because ships use ocean currents to their advantage, going with the flow of the currents that flow in opposite directions on the two sides of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which forms in the center of these water currents like the eye of a gigantic eddy.
We saw a few drifting items making their way to the "dump," but never really obscuring our beautiful ocean views as we walked laps around the Promenade Deck or rested on our balcony.
Just to be clear, I highly recommend this easy tropical cruise, and you can enjoy it as a relaxing holiday without thinking too hard, if you prefer.
However, I would encourage you to learn more about The Ocean Cleanup, an amazing project started five years ago by a young genius who has managed to actually get his dream off the ground. After all, don't we all have a vested interest in saving the oceans?
