Staying Inside
Published Thursday, April 2nd 2020 - Updated Friday, May 1st 2020It's amazing how fast the world has changed.
Just two months ago, Julie and I were in a different hemisphere, with our good friends Mike and Linda.
Chefs prepared delicious meals for us, and outstanding entertainers competed for our attention in assorted comfortable venues around our floating resort, Coral Princess.
Now, Los Angeles County has banned us all from going to the beach or on hiking trails, closed all the restaurants and non-essential businesses, and rather counter-intuitively released felons with less than 60 days left on their sentences, who --- unless I'm mistaken --- will have a pretty tough time finding jobs in California's economy which has been pretty much shut down.
Could this be the new normal?
NO!
Don't let anyone convince you otherwise, unless that's what you truly want.
We're Americans.
For us, normal is living free.
We certainly will go along with this quarantine to flatten the curve, because we understand that at this point there is nothing to be gained by flaunting the rules that will only be here a few more days.
We're all in this mess together, and as a philosopher wrote in colorful crayons on the sidewalk we walked along yesterday, when "we" replaces "I," illness becomes wellness.
When summer comes around as inevitably as a Beach Boys melody on oldies radio, we will be back to the real normal.
