One if by land, two if by sea?
Published Thursday, November 7th 2024 - Updated Thursday, November 7th 2024Which way will you explore the world next?
1. A land tour will make travel much easier than DIY connect-the-dots dart-throwing. You can choose how deluxe you want your trip to be. Rather than re-inventing the wheel, step into a dream vacation where you have an expert to guide you and about 15 to 40 new friends to the country or region you wish to visit. This initially may seem to cost more than booking hotels and transportation, but once you factor in admission fees and the cost of search (both getting lost and trying to find exactly what you want), most find packaged tours cost less than a la carte. Hearing about places you visit while traveling between stops turns out to be much more relaxing than trying to figure out the rules of the road in foreign countries. Who would have guessed?
2. Take a cruise for your next great vacation. Enjoy a floating resort where you return home at the end of each day. If you haven't taken a large ship cruise in a decade, then the whole world of cruising will be astounding. New ships have features and amenities you would not have imagined. Then again, stepping aboard a ship that I have cruised on previously always seems exciting and new, as a famous TV theme goes. Julie and I have taken Caribbean Princess four times, and while the most recent time the ship wasn't as awe-inspiring as the first time, we had a wonderful cruise. Still, I admit seeing stars with visions of the newest Princess ships.
But perhaps a big ship isn't your thing.
Smaller, more intimate ships make the ports of call easier, if for no other reason than you have fewer travelers trying to get off the ship. In addition, they often call on more exclusive ports that bigger ships simply cannot squeeze into.
And there are more numbers.
3. How about a tapestry of regional experiences on a river cruise? The ships are even smaller, carrying about 200 passengers or less, depending on the line.
Or consider other ways, including the perfect all-inclusive beach resort.
Let me know what you want, and I will help you get there.
