Iceland and Norway bring to mind Viking adventures.

From these rugged lands sprung warriors whose ancestors became rulers in much of Europe. Perhaps you've caught episodes of the tv show "Vikings," which dramatized the conquests of Northern England and Paris by these marauders from the north.

Fortunate travelers who now cruise Norway and Iceland return with their own epic stories, not of battles but the amazing beauty of fjords and natural phenomenon that do not have their equal anywhere on earth.

Some very well-traveled friends returned from their Viking Ocean Cruise to Iceland gushing about the best vacation ever.

Proof is that they booked a return trip to explore more in the region, this time Norway to perhaps encounter the Northern Lights.

My late friend Bill was a Nordic mountain of a man.  He might have been a Viking leader 1,000 years ago, although he was so amiable it would be hard to imagine him pillaging villages.

He brought his lovely family to Norway, the land from which his grandparents immigrated.  They chose a relatively large MSC ship, which they absolutely loved.

When he returned, he could not contain his enthusiasm about the total experience.  He also dreamed of returning.
