Hawaii in 2023?

If you have never been to Hawaii, plan now to mark that off your bucket list in 2023.

Those who have been to Hawaii are likely ready to return by now.

I'm still marinating in magic memories of swimming with turtles, soaking up sunshine on the beach, snorkeling through brightly colored tropical fish, sipping Lahaina Haze IPA by the beach, hiking to the top of Diamond Head and soaking up the Aloha spirit during our December cruise from L.A.

Rest and relaxation is the name of the game in Hawaii.

Perhaps you go to fine restaurants and pay for the best entertainment when staying at a beach front hotel.  If so, then you know how much those evening elements add to the daytime fun in the sun.

That's what I like about cruising.  I get those perks without fretting about whether I want to splurge for a nice multi-course seafood dinner and then pay admissions to see live music.  It's all rolled into the cruise.

One of the dream times to visit Hawaii is during Winter Break.  Yes, prices will be higher on those prime departure dates, but folks like Brion and Rita love spending the holiday season in Hawaii so much that they make a Princess Cruise from Los Angeles to our 50th state an annual event.  In 2023, Viking Ocean has apparently taken Princess's holiday port days in Hawaii for cruises from Los Angeles, splitting them between two 16-night cruises, one over Christmas and one over New Year's Eve. 

Normally, you would expect to pay a large premium to jump from a mainstream line to Viking Ocean, which has been regularly winning best ocean cruise line honors since branching from their signature river cruise business a few years ago.  For not that much more than a mini-suite or balcony room, a Veranda on Viking includes a free shore excursion in each port, free-flowing wine and beer with lunch and dinner, plus free wifi.  Right now, a deposit of just $25 per person will hold your Viking dream cruise until final payment is due.

Crown Princess will be cruising to Hawaii next Christmas, but only from San Francisco, not L.A.

For Southern California cruisers, Holland America will also be making a 16-night voyage to Hawaii from San Diego over Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Plus, Princess and HAL will both be doing more Hawaii cruises from SoCal in the fall and spring, as usual.

In our recent cruise the fortnight before the holiday cruise this year, we were treated to lovely holiday decorations on our cruise at a lower price point, because the first couple of weeks in December tend to be one of the best value times for cruises. 

Of course, you can always find the best of summer in Hawaii, pretty much no matter when you go.
