Happy Memorial Day!
Published Monday, May 31st 2021 - Updated Monday, May 31st 2021Perhaps it's no longer fashionable to say, but I love the United States of America. I believe you do too, even if the news tries to convince us otherwise.
Memorial Day is a holiday from work for most people, and far too many think that is all that matters, but we should all say a prayer for the brave soldiers who lost their lives fighting for our values and freedoms.
When we vacation, we have the opportunity to visit places where history unfolded, including Hawaii's Pearl Harbor. A secret bombing mission spelled disaster for our Pacific fleet on December 7, 1941, "a day that will live in infamy."
As you know, that fateful day awakened a sleeping giant that not only took back islands of the Pacific, bloody battle by bloody battle, but helped our allies liberate Europe.
We are proud the USA has been a force for good throughout the world. It is as a direct result of the brave actions of the military that we have for most of our lives had freedom to travel to free regions of the world.
How will you savor your freedoms, now that fear of Covid-19 is dissipating?
The reality is that most people book cruises and land vacations six to twelve months in advance, however, and if you aren't ready to take the risk this summer, you should start making plans for your next great vacation. Write down a bucket list for the rest of your life, including Hawaii.
Maybe you want to tour Pearl Harbor in Honolulu before boarding Pride of America, which will return to seven-night, all-Hawaii cruises in November.
