Happy Independence Day!
Published Saturday, July 2nd 2022 - Updated Saturday, July 2nd 2022Hasn't it been wonderful to grow up and live in a free country?
Most people throughout history were not nearly so fortunate.
In the 18th Century, the Age of Enlightenment brought revolutionary new beliefs that challenged the status quo where monarchs and their aristocratic coterie ruled by divine right rather than attaining honored positions and wealth through merit.
Many in our modern era choose to focus on the imperfections of our founding fathers rather than the miracle that they came together to launch this great experiment in freedom which continues to evolve.
Perhaps it has felt like our country has been going off course lately, but the United States remains head and shoulders above most countries throughout history in terms of prosperity and freedom of the average citizen.
Last month, we spent 30 days celebrating a rainbow of diversity with Pride month.
Why not spend the month of July celebrating "E Pluribus Unum," from many, one?
By choice, we live in this great country, and if any honest citizen wants to leave, it is not the United States stopping them. Of course, most countries have strict rules and requirements for visitors from other nations, including passports and sometimes visas, but we manage to figure that out.
The fact is that the vast majority of us privileged to travel abroad to see wonders of the world return back to the "Home of the Brave, Land of the Free."
Part of being free is taking those trips abroad to see how the rest of the world lives. None of us knows how long we will have that freedom or the means, both financial and physical, to explore the world. Go while you can!
To get the most from your journeys, take a cruise or escorted tour, from which you can return with a heightened sense of our place in the world.
God Bless America!
