Alaska always brings oohs and aahs to travelers.

If heading north to visit glaciers sounds a little too cold at this moment when you spend free time bundled up inside to stay cozy, remember that cruise season in Alaska has moderate temperatures.  And by then, you will more likely be ready to escape the city heat.

As is the case with Hawaii, if you have never been to Alaska, you need to experience our largest, most natural state for yourself, and if you've already been, it is time to return.

It's not that our contiguous 48 states don't offer lots to see. I can help you book a national parks tour, a cruise to Canada/New England, river cruise on the Columbia or Mississippi, or perhaps a trip to a coast followed by a tropical cruise to the Caribbean or Mexico.

There's something special about our 49th and 50th states, and not just for those of us who remember them being welcomed into the union.

They each have unique natural beauty and attitudes not found elsewhere in our vast, wonderful country.

Instead of a flower lei like Hawaii, Alaska offers a welcoming bear hug --- not literally, though you can certainly find wild bears there --- to its rugged wilderness to encounter wildlife and wilderness areas too vast to imagine.

Denali National Park alone is over 6 million acres, and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is more than twice as large at 13 million acres, and you can't catch a glimpse of those without crossing miles and miles of gorgeous overland countryside from ports visited on your cruise.  That's why many who've been enchanted by cruising Alaska's coast return for a cruisetour that takes them to the inland.  Some lucky cruisers start with a cruisetour, and then also want to return to see more.

But that's getting ahead of ourselves.  Simply cruising the coastline and visiting what is easily accessible from those wonderful ports will be a remarkable experience that will elicit oohs and aahs.

Your favorite cruise line likely has a presence there, with Holland America and Princess sporting the largest ship deployments, and Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian and Carnival are all gradually expanding their presence in this must-see destination.  As you know, you'll have fun on board wherever you go.

You can also stretch your ship horizons.  Why not try a posh line you've always wondered about?

Ballroom dancers and those who like the idea of a more traditional ocean liner experience can sample Cunard in Alaska this summer.  Disney brings Wonder outside of their usual Magic Kingdoms to the majestic "Matterhorns" of Alaska.  Viking Ocean offers their all-inclusive river cruise spirit, including free shore excursions, in the great northwest.

Regardless of travel style or whether you choose an inside passage cruise roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver, a north or south bound voyage between Vancouver and a port for Anchorage, or a longer cruise or cruisetour, you will find yourself on a great adventure in Alaska!
