It's easy to take for granted that we live in a beautiful country where one of the most important stories of all time has unfolded.

These days, the majority of US citizens seem to believe that flaws of our country overwhelm the good.

As such, there may be no better year to cruise through New England with your family or friends than this year, to be reminded the privilege we share,  to live in this country where we have the right to self-governance, freedom from persecution by tyrants, and of course life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Such has not been the case throughout most of human history, where kings and other tyrants have dictated what their subjects have been allowed to do.

Emblematic of the decline in our love of country is a recent Wall Street Journal poll that found just 38% believe patriotism is very important, down from 70% just 25 years ago.

Despite this, millions of new arrivals stream across our borders, recognizing our country is indeed a place worthy of living.

Maybe we need to be reminded of how wonderful our country is, and a cruise to New England makes a great wake-up call.

And in case you haven't thought about it recently, American baby boomers are the first generation to have the ways and means to travel wherever they wish to go.

Embrace the miracle of the age of airlines and cruises while you can.

After all, we have been blessed to live in a time and place where freedom and prosperity rules, but that is only a tiny sliver of the pie chart of human history.

And it could be snuffed out by tyrants spinning seductive tales of alternative utopias, if we don't understand and honor what we have already.

God bless America on this holy Easter week.
