If you've been watching the news or simply noticed empty spaces on store shelves where products you hoped to buy used to be displayed, you may be concerned about Christmas shopping this year due to "the supply chain crisis."

Regardless of which pundits you believe about what caused this shortage, you may well ask if the madness of Black Friday sales will be the norm in the weeks leading up to that religious holiday season that has become a gift-exchange frenzy?

Why put yourself through that hassle when there's a much better solution?

Everyone loves to travel!

Consider giving your immediate family a cruise.

Perhaps you remember a surreal episode of the hit show "Oprah" when the famous hostess surprised her audience by presenting them each with beautifully wrapped gifts with the promise that one contained the key to a new fully-loaded Pontiac G6.

That certainly proved to be one of the great moments in television, truly mind-boggling.

Giving everyone on our shopping list a car like Oprah Winfrey --- or even General Motors --- is beyond the means of anyone I know.

You might be able, however, to afford to give special friends and family cruise gift certificates rather than the entire cruise.  Of course, you should be fairly certain they have the means and  motivation to pay for the rest of the trip.

Or perhaps you could lock in a group interior rooms on a short cruise embarking close to home, letting friends and family say "yay or nay" to joining your group, perhaps paying for their own upgrades if they want more posh accommodations or amenities like beverage packages.

Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to look around that holiday gathering and say, "You get a cruise!  And you get a cruise!  And you get a cruise..."????
