Celebrate Columbus With a Caribbean Cruise!
Published Friday, October 9th 2020 - Updated Sunday, October 11th 2020Happy Columbus Day!
As you know, October 12 is the day we celebrate the first Caribbean cruise, commemorating the island arrival of three ships on this date way back in the year 1492.
The Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria were not mega-ships.
In fact, as cruise ships go, they sucked big time.
Those tiny, leaky vessels bounced up and down with every swell and crashing wave.
It's surprising any of the ships held together for that grueling ten-week voyage.
And the food?
Let's just say they were neither eating freshly prepared gourmet meals for sustenance nor sipping frosty blended Margaritas to avoid scurvy.
Entertainment? The passengers could swab the deck or plan a mutiny against the crazy guy who thought this transatlantic crossing during hurricane season would be a Capital idea, Christopher Columbus.
For those of you born after the Summer of Love, here's a 5-minute summary of what those of us born before you learned in grammar school about this chapter in our wonderful country's heritage.
Don't let their experience put you off planning a Caribbean cruise.
Trust me, it's a lot easier with Cruise Planners than going to royal palaces with hat in hand to beg for funding. Just put a low, refundable deposit on your Visa, American Express or Mastercard!
I'll be happy to help you find the perfect ship and itinerary for your desires and budget.
Of course, if you want to go to a different cruise destination or take a land tour, I'll be happy to arrange that too.

P.S. Today's installment of our virtual river cruise together takes us to magnificent Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, including a tangential tale of the French Revolution.
