Dream With Us
Published Wednesday, July 22nd 2020 - Updated Thursday, July 23rd 2020All of us who love cruising for the wonderful destinations it brings to the doors of our floating resort and the onboard experience itself dream of cruising again.
Hopefully, that day will arrive soon.
Vaccines have been expedited like never before into final test stages. Even now, our medical geniuses have come up with effective treatments to battle the symptoms and the virus itself.
That's not to say we're out of the woods entirely. People with serious health concerns and seniors over the age of 80 should henceforth proceed with caution, but the rest of us can dream, even as we do what we can personally to avoid contracting or spreading the virus.
As you know, I had hoped cruise routes would open when summer arrived...and then mid-summer...but the shutdown has dragged on.
Now, October 1 has become the new goal line for most cruise lines. Princess just announced the pause in operation will go through December 15, 2020, and we can only hope other cruise lines won't follow suit.
While I deeply miss cruising, I also feel great empathy for cruise line staffs, who over the years have come to feel like friends.
Perhaps you keep track of some particular waiter or cruise director and follow them on social media, like my good friends Mike and Linda who follow a few of their Princess favorites.
I expect each crew member will live up to the excellent service I've come to expect on the various lines based on their overriding customer service philosophies as ingrained in training and practice, and I'm rarely disappointed, even if some whose names have long since been forgotten stand out for specific memories.
You may have noticed that my recent newsletters (Two Tickets to Paradise and White Sands Beside a Crystal Blue Sea) have been about island stays for your summer vacation. That's simply surrendering to what has become the first summer in 54 years without tropical cruises from US ports compounded by the lock down of many other worldwide destinations. I just want you to know that it is not too late to experience an amazing summer, even if you can't cruise.
However, most of us are no longer bound to school vacation schedules. If your calendar is flexible, you can enjoy summer vacation in December or any other month you choose.
It's time to dream again.
Let's get a cruise scheduled on your calendar, something to look forward to.
