A funny thing happened on the way to the inaugural sailing of the much anticipated Virgin Voyages.

Well, not "LOL" funny, but odd beyond belief: COVID-19.

The "grand opening" has been pushed back a couple of times, and now we're looking at October 16, 2020.

These are not long cruises, which perhaps for your first time finding your sea legs in months, that's a good low-risk proposition for you.

Four and Five nights are the Virgin Voyages norm, although over Christmas and New Year's there are seven night cruises on Scarlet Lady.

Because of concerns about COVID-19, Virgin said they will sail at just 60% of capacity, so you will find this to be a less crowded cruise than most mainstream cruises.

In addition, Viking has sweetened pricing with reductions of 30% for voyages this year.

There are lots of positives about Virgin, you which you hopefully will remember me telling you about, but in any case you can click here to read what I wrote in February.

Geared to younger travelers, there shouldn't be a lot of "at-risk" people on board, but Virgin like all cruise and tour companies has stepped up the hygiene protocols.

Considering they're starting with a brand new ship and will cruise at just 60% of the guest capacity, not to mention Virgin had already planned to replace the buffet with a made-to-order food court, you can cruise confidently, assuming the government doesn't delay the start of the season again.

If you're afraid to go outside your home or happen to be in a high risk group (serious health problems or advanced age), stay home and limit your contacts with the outside world.

Otherwise, if you're not a hermit, then it seems you are damned to come in contact with other people regardless.  Why not make those contacts people having fun in the sun?

It's proven vitamin D makes you more resistant to Coronavirus, and the sun is the natural source for vitamin D.

Booking this cruise will lift some of the doom off your mind, replacing it with optimism of a bright escape in the near future.  That's great for you, too!
